The Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA) has welcomed government's decision to suspend the abolition of the statutory instrument that allows Public Service vehicles to be painted in sky blue colour.
ZACA Executive Director Muyunda Ililonga says government should now engage all stakeholders in the transport sector in its consultations.
Mr. Ililonga says there are so many deficiencies in the transport system that need urgent attention from government and other stakeholders.
He says abolishing the sky blue colour code would have put commuters' lives at risk as it was going to be difficult to identify public service vehicles in terms of accidents and thefts.
The ZACA Executive Director has further implored government to take into consideration the plight of commuters which border on safety and efficiency.
Yesterday, Communications and Transport Minister Geoffrey Lungwangwa announced the suspension of the abolition of the colour code for public service vehicles to allow for consultations on the same.
