RADIO Q-FM

Radio Q-FM is a local radio station whose idea was mooted over a considerable number of years. Its prime business interest is purely Zambian.

Q-FM is a commercial English-medium entertainment, music and information radio station targeted to an informed audience in the 15-45 age groups.

The station transmits 24-hours. The station identifies with its modern listeners by way of a target-oriented music mix. Q-FM aims to satisfy listeners' needs in order to maintain majority market share through quality programming. As market leaders in the entertainment arena, Q-FM sets the pace and trend for today's audience in Zambian radio. Apart from the music targeting, the station’s programming is predominantly personality driven, with the country's top presenters on-air.

Radio Q-FM started transmitting on 1 October 2001. It was the second commercial radio station to be licensed in Lusaka area, following the opening up of the airwaves in the electronic media in Zambia Q-FM boasts of a young and dynamic workforce that is small and effective. The members of staff have developed valuable experience in radio broadcasting and production expertise.

The station has four main departments namely Marketing, News Room, Presenters (on-air staff) and Production.
On a regular basis we recruit trainee journalists on attachment from the major institutes as part of our commitment to the community we broadcast to.

HOURS OF BROADCAST

Radio Q-FM broadcasts around the clock – 24 hours a day – under the following schedules:

Weekdays

• Between 06:00 am and 6:00 pm, we run on four three hour shifts
• Between 6:00 pm and 06:00 am, we run on three four hour shifts

Weekends

• From Friday 6:00 pm to Monday 06:00 am, we run four-hour shifts throughout.

We have three news bulletins a day; the early morning news at 07:00 am, lunchtime news at 12:45 pm, and evening bulletin at 6:00 pm.

Our target audience is: The working class, Residents at home, Motorists, Tourists Academics & students

TARGET AUDIENCE

According to the Station’s recent research on its target audience survey the following age-group range and their listening capacity results show:

• 15 – 18 19%
• 19 – 29 33%
• 30 – 40 32%
• 41 – 50 13%
• Above 50-2%

COVERAGE AREAS

From Lusaka the commercial capital, our transmission covers the following areas:

Lusaka: Full coverage of Lusaka Main District, North: Chisamba, Mukushi Farming Block Kabwe, Kapiri Mposhi,

East: Chongwe and Lower Zambezi valley,

West; Mumbwa district.

South: Kafue, Kafue Gorge, Mazabuka up to Monze.

We have coverage in southern province i.e. Choma and surrounding areas.

These areas area densely populated with fast business under takings in manufacturing, hotel and tourism, sugar plantations, fisheries, cement manufacturing, agriculture, hydro electricity plants, chemical and fertiliser manufacturing plants
