The foundation for democratic process FODEP has challenged the electoral commission of Zambia ECZ to quickly address the financial impediments that are negatively impacting the continuous voter registration process.
Recently it was reported that the process which has less than 75 days to go, was in Monze brought to a halt due to inadequate resources.
FODEP information officer, McDonald Chipenzi warns that if the commission does not give this matter the deserved attention, there is a great possibility that the registration process will not attain its intended goal.
He says that the ECZ should be ready to deal with all the issues that come up in the process in order to ensure that the country reaches its intended goal.
Mr. Chipenzi also indicates that it is important for the commission to be alert and realize that this year's registration process started on a very low note and the only way to successfully sustain it is by ensuring that it stays adequately funded.
He points out that if the ECZ misses this opportunity get Zambians registered, the after effects of such a decision will only be felt in 2011.
But the effects will be too drastic for the commission to reverse and therefore action should be taken now.
